TIRANA, August 23
Girls are changing the world and Arla, Dea, and Jonada, three Albanian teens, are among them. Known as the D3c0ders team, they recently won the Technovation World Pitch Summit in Silicon Valley, in the senior division with their GjejZa app (which translates find a voice). D3c0ders team was selected among 169 semi-finalist teams from all over the world. Girl teams were invited to identify a problem in their community and to solve it through technology and entrepreneurship.
GjejZa app developed by Arla, Dea, and Jonada is a solution against gender-based violence. The app offers options to get a legal, psychological, and medical consultation. It breaks myths on gender violence, shares success stories, and has an SOS menu with emergency holiness.
The team focused on gender-based violence and discrimination as they are still major problems in Albanian society. The girls said that this issue also affects equal access to STEM education and careers and that gender disparity in STEM education is common in Albanian schools. In an interview for the Voice of America, they pointed out that boys and girls donβt receive equal support in STEM subjects.Β Further on, they added that this achievement encourages them to continue working in their community and breaking gender barriers.
