In the past years, the trade exchanges between Albania and Malta have increased significantly, by listing Malta as the fourth trade partner of Albania, according to statistics published by the General Directory of Customs.
During the first semiannual of this year, Albanian exports towards Malta estimated at a value of ALL 5.4 billion, about 4.2% of the total amount of Albania’s exports. Compared to figures of a year before, Albanian exports have decreased since during 2014 the value of Albanian exports towards Malta was estimated to be ALL 7.6 billion.
Most of the Albanian exports to Malta consist of crude oil, since Bankers Petroleum (the biggest oil exploration foreign company in Albania) exports all the crude oil extracted in Albania and Malta is the main destinations for this product.
World Bank statistics show that in 2013 hydrocarbons comprised more than 42% of Malta’s exports since Malta is known for the refining of oil and this activity contributes highly in country’s economy.
