TIRANA, August 13
From the mountain peaks of Shari to the Coast of Prespa Lake, avid hikers have now the chance to walk a new hiking route that spans for over 495 km. Adventure-seekers that want to explore the Balkans while walking long, long ways can now hit the High Scardus Trail. This newly marked trail spans in the mountainous areas between Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia. Named after the ancient name of the Sarr Mountains, the trail is part of the regional project ‘Future prospects through mountain tourism’ funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ GmbH and implemented by GIZ.
The project aims at improving employment opportunities through tourism in the cross-border area between Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia. It takes around 20 days to complete the High Scardus Trail.
