The Albanian Electronic and Postal Communication Authority have issued a market analysis on the landline telephone system which has been approved by this institution and foresees an escalated decrease of the tariffs for this service until 2018.
According to the latest decisions made by this institution in relation to the landline telephone system market analysis, starting from January 1st of 2016, the fixed tariff of each call operators have to pay to each other (currently: ALL 0.38) will be eliminated.
The EPCA has also decided to reduce several other tariffs as the interconnection tariff which is predicted to decrease to ALL 1.34 per minute in the beginning of 2016, to ALL 1.09 per minute in the beginning of 2017 and to ALL 0.7 per minute in the beginning of 2018. These changes have been justified as necessary for ensuring a fair competition and to reduce the mobile communication tariffs for its users.
The landline telephony is the less used form of communication in Albania since the Albanians lost interest in using the landline telephone system after the mobile telecommunication companies decreased their tariffs drastically. The majority of Albanians have at least one active cell phone and active accounts in one of the four telecommunication companies that operate in the country.
