On September 10, the Albanian Assembly Speaker Ilir Meta held a meeting with the President of the Republic of Kosovo Ahtifete Jahjaga in Tirana, in the framework of President Jahjaga’s official visit to Tirana.
Speaking about the situation in Kosovo during the past years, Assembly Speaker Meta praised the significant progress Kosovo has made and stressed that Albania fully supports Kosovo in the advancement of negotiations in euro Atlantic integrating processes. Meta said Kosovo must increase efforts in strengthening the democratic institutions and becoming a member in international organizations which presumably will affect in convincing several states to recognize Kosovo’s independence. Meta also highlighted the fact that Kosovo-Serbia dialogue has made significant progress. Meta added that Albania – Kosovo relations are strategic and important for ensuring stability in the Balkan region and that both countries will continue to cooperate in different fields, mainly in the economic sector.
In turn, the President of Kosovo Ahtifete Jahjaga praised the huge support Albania has shown to Kosovo and its peoples in advancing the EU integration process and by lobbying to international organizations for Kosovo’s independence recognition. The President has scheduled several meetings with other high-ranked officials of the Albanian government.
Albania and Kosovo signed several agreements to cut barriers and reduce bureaucracies in the cross bordering points, in order to increase trade exchanges and boost the economic collaboration. In 2014, Albania and Kosovo held the first nationwide meeting in Kosovo while in the beginning of 2015, the governments of both countries held their second nationwide meeting in Tirana capital, Albania.
