Representatives of the World Jewish Congress attended the Business Forum held in Tirana (September 18), organized under the auspices of Meinl Bank, Tirana Chamber of Commerce and Albanian Investment Development Agency. More than 30 Jewish businessmen presented their investment proposals for key sectors as energy, tourism, water management, bank system and agriculture. The Business Forum attended by the Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi, the Minister of Transports Edmond Haxhinasto and heads of Albanian businesses.
One of the most important offers was made by Julius Meinl V, President of Euro-Asian Jewish Congress. He represented the “Meinl” family business with a 130 year tradition in bank system. “Meinl Bank” investment bank is a world known financial institution with branches in Southeast Europe, Russia and a newly opened branch in Albania. “Meinl Bank” representative showed interest to invest in tourism, real estate, commercial centers and offered help in the formalization of cash money market of our country.
Roland Lauder, the President of the World Jewish Congress, an American business and philanthropist, estimated the fact that Albanians were one of the only nations which protected jewish during the Second World War and provided shelter for them. He expressed his impression about the Albanian culture and his willingness to invest in Albania. The Head of “Estee Lauder” said that Albania has extraordinary unexploited potentials. “We believe in Albanians and want to help them”, ended his word Roland Lauder.
In turn, the Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi highlighted the need of Albania for the increase of FDIs, given that remittances have decreased. Energy, infrastructure financial services, agriculture and the development of economic areas remain fields of interest for new foreign investments, according to Peleshi. “Albania needs a fast and new economic development. We invite you to invest in Albania, since your investments are necessary”, concluded Deputy Prime Minister Peleshi. Albanian Minister of Agriculture Edmond Haxhinasto, was of the opinion that Albania offers security even by the legislation regarding foreign investments as being part of many international organizations.
The Israeli Minister of Energy and Waters, Silvan Shalom , showed his interest to invest in the water management sector since Albania is rich of natural water reserves. Shalom said that Albania and Israeli must intensify relations in the economic field and apprechiated the extablishement of 40 Israeli businesses in Albania. Let’s work together to a further increase of Israeli investments in Albania. Israeli businesses have continuously shown their interest in Albania”, stated the Israeli Minister of Energy and Waters, Shalom.
This forum served as the adecuate medium for the presentation of business offers by Jewish businessmen who seek to invest in Albania.
