TIRANA, May 9
Seven international experts from Italy, France, Germany, Costa Rica, and Croatia are testing Albania protected areas’ ecotourism package. The testing process started in the northwestern city of Shkodra. The ecotourism package focuses on the tourism potential of protected areas, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable economic development.
The chairperson of Shkodra’s Administration for Protected Areas Agim Dardha said for the Albanian Telegraphic Agency that this project is cofounded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and it will have a second testing phase in September. This is the first time that Albania participates in the project respective with the protected areas of Shkodra and Vlora.
The group of experts testing tour included a visit to Rozafa Castle, a boat tour in Buna River, a visit to the family of a local fisherman, and a visit to the visitors welcoming center in Velipoja.
The ecotourism packages testing stages will prove their sustainability after by using the ecological footprint.
