INSTAT figures about trade exchanges in the first five months of this year show that companies increased their investments by increasing the import of machinery and equipments for their factories. Concessionary companies which are managing the TAP project and hydropower plants throughout the country were the biggest importers, according to official statistics published by INSTAT.
Imports also increased for raw materials for shoes production and chemical products as well. Despite this, imports decreased by 1.2% in annual terms due to the non import of the electrical energy and other “Made in Albania” products.
Imports of machinery and equipments increased by 15% during January – May period, while “leather and other items” imports increased by 9.4%. Imports of chemical and plastic raw materials increased by 7%, says the report of INSTAT. The value of imports in May of 2015 reached the value of ALL 44 billion, increasing by 1.2% compared to the previous month and decreased by 8.3% compared to May 2014. The import of construction materials keeps increasing from year to year. During January – May period, the import of these items increased by 11%, compared to the same period of a year before.
In terms of the country of imports’ origin, Albania’s European Union trade partners head the list by 66.3% of the total amount of imports, increasing by 0.3% compared to May 2014. Imports from Kosovo increased by 1.2% compared to May 2014, says the report.
