Institute of Statistics has published a report on the domestic demand performance during the third quarter of 2014, which shows that domestic demand for hydrocarbons decreased. Import amounts of diesel and petrol decreased by 4.3% compared to the same period of 2013, according to INSTAT. About 153 million liters diesel less was consumed during this period, the report shows.
The reasons why imports of diesel decreased are related to the increase of the domestic production, say experts. ARMO refinery activity during 2014 showed a good performance, by producing more than back in 2013. But, the decrease of petrol imports which is not produced in Albania shows that the domestic demand for this product did not decrease as a result of its high price.
Despite this, the amount of petrol imported in the third quarter fell to about 31 million liters, 15% less compared to the same period of 2013. The decrease of imports of fuel has come at a time when prices are down sharply. But, despite this, it appears that businesses and individuals have been more sparing in the use of labor and transportation means.
