Improved Road Infrastructure Contributes to Increased Freight Transport

Transport infrastructure is essential for companies, both Albanian and international, to move products and people with ease. The recent data for the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) confirm on Tuesday that significant improvements of road infrastructure had an impact on the volume of commodities transported by land.
Therefore, INSTAT data confirmed that freight transport by land increased by 49 percent during January 2918. Despite the positive figures, the largest volume of commodities is transported by sea.
The volume of commodities transported during January reached a value of Lek 68 billion while 54.4 percent of goods were transported by sea.
Durres port, the largest seaport in Albania consists of 92.7 percent of goods, imports or exports, transported by sea.
Moreover, the rail freight transport reflected high figures over 13.8 percent higher compared to January 2017.
Meanwhile, commodities transported by air during the first month of the year increased by 16 percent compared to the same period of 2017.
