Chairman of the Albanian Parliament Ilir Meta visited Azerbaijan in an official visit on October 19. At the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, he was welcomed by a delegation of Azerbaijani officials led by first deputy chairman of the Parliament Ziyafet Asgarov.
In a brief talk with journalists, Mr. Meta said: “This is my first official visit to Azerbaijan as a parliament speaker. This visit illustrates the importance Albania attaches to boosting its relationship with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is our strategic partner in terms of future development of Albania.”
Mr. Meta stressed the significance of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), saying this is not the only project linking Albania with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani companies are investing in energy, infrastructure and tourism sectors of Albania. And this testifies to the existence of big potential for expanding our economic relations.”
He said he will witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Tirana Polytechnic University and Baku State University, adding education was a very promising area for developing the bilateral cooperation. In Baku, Mr. Meta will visit the Alley of Honors and the Alley of Martyrs, and hold several meetings.
