The Albanian Road Code is going to change again thus drivers that will be caught using their phone while driving will face tough fines. This is the newest penalty that follows the one for drivers and passengers that donβt wear the seat belt. Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri declared that an awareness raising campaign is going to begin on November. Afterwards, it will start the implementation of the new penalty.
Therefore, changes to the Road Code have been foreseen. They consist of hefty fines for those that will use mobile phones while driving. The police will impose the highest fine that is currently applied.
According to Tahiri, not wearing the seat belt and phone use while driving have fatal consequences. Hence, he says that radical measures are needed to be undertaken in order to deal with these problems.
