TIRANA, December 6
The Albanian government has scrapped a decision on the additional fee per credit for every carry over exam following days of protests in Tirana and other cities. Minister of Education, Sport, and Youth Lindita Nikolla declared in a press conference that the decision adopted by the Council of Ministers has been annulled. In the meantime, she called on the people in charge in public universities to find a solution to the other issues raised by the students. She repeated her previous statements regarding tuition fees and pointed out that they are set by the universities and not by the ministry.
The official statement was issued following a meeting with the deans and rectors of public universities.
On their part, the students have three other requests:
Tuition fees to be halved
Better dorm conditions
Tuition fees to be paid in January and not in December
