Albanian Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Entrepreneurship, Arben Ahmetaj held a two day visit in Germany, on February 26-27. During his official visit, the Minister met with the vise Chancellor of Germany Sigmar Gabriel which currently holds also the position of Federal Minister for Economy and Energy.
The discussions between the two counterparts focused on the economic development of Albania, the undertaken reforms and the so far advancement of Berlin process, at which Albania is playing a very active role.
Minister Ahmetaj presented to the vise Chancellor the reforms Albania is undertaking in energy sector, pensions and legal system. “The establishment of a state of right and the war against corruption and organized crime are important priorities of the Albanian government activity,” said Minister Ahmetaj. “The new economic model has started to show its results, he added, and we are focusing on supporting key industries, on increasing exports and attracting foreign investments.
Sigmar Gabriel highlighted the importance of this process for all Balkan countries and greeted the important role Albania is playing in it by coordinating all regional countries on joint projects which countries will present in the next Summit of Berlin, which will be held in Vienna, in August 2015.
“Germany supports the construction of the Blue Corridor and we consider it not only as an important project for the region but as a connecting bridge between Western and Central European countries,” added the vise Chancellor Gabriel.
The Berlin Summit which will be held in Vienna is a personal initiative taken by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel with the aim to boost economic and social collaboration between Balkan countries, mainly in infrastructure, railways and energy sector.
The vise Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel ensured the Albanian Minister for the financial support Germany will show towards joint projects that will be presented by Balkan countries.
