Gent Sejko is officially the new Bank of Albania’s Governor, approved by parliament on February 5, 2015. His candidature was approved by Albanian MPs during the plenary session in February 5, with 105 votes pro.
Sejko was presented as a strong candidature for Bank of Albania’s new Governor by Albania’s President Bujar Nishani. On December 2014, he was chosen as member of Bank of Albania’s Supervisory Board, with the approval of the opposition and the majority. On January 30, Sejko presented to the Economy Commission the platform and policies he will follow in governing the most important financial institution in Albania, by underlining that his priorities will be the transparency and the protection of consumers’ interests.
Being a well known economist with a long and professional experience in banking and financial system in Albania and USA, Sejko declared at the Economy Commission that he will request the assessment of Central Bank’s documents and financial statements in order to make a review of the current situation.
During the plenary session on February 5, MPs discussed about the emergency situation in country’s south, where massive flooding are registered in many cities due to heavy rains and the overflow of rivers in south. The opposition MPs made an appeal for the indemnity at 100% of all damaged families and businesses.
