The study of the Gas Master Plan and the Project Identification Plan will be conducted within October of this year, official sources by the Ministry of Energy quoted. A few days ago, the Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri held a meeting with representatives of Western Balkan Investment Framework to discuss about the commencement of the works in preparing the study for the gasification process of the country.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of TAP project, SHELL, Petromanas, SOCAR, Bankers Petroleum and Trans Atlantic Albania companies. The gasification of Albania will be made in the framework of TAP project establishment in the country, and it will be implemented by Cowl – IPF consortium, in accordance with Albania’s strategic plans in the energy sector. This will be the first step towards the establishment of a comprehensive plan in the gas and energy sectors.
The study will serve as a basis for the next steps in developing the gas sector in Albania, the diversification of energy sources and the strengthening of the energy sector in overall. The Project Identification Plan will be a list of priority and strategic investment projects in the gas sector in the country.
The study will take in consideration all gas sources in the territory of Albania, including the gas brought from projects such TAP or IAP, the potential for depositing and transporting gas through underground channels and the possible gas links that the country may establish with Macedonia in a near future.
