In Tirana was held the fourth Conference with theme “The industry of medicinal plants, a guarantee for employment and development” by the Association of Collectors, Processers and Exporters of Medicinal Plants in Albania.
Attendants of the conference were representatives of businesses that operate in this field, the Minister of Agriculture Edmond Panariti, medicinal plants’ experts and farmers.
The Minister of Agriculture has made an appeal to all farmers to avoid the cultivation of medicinal plants with imported seeds since this practice will affect negatively in the exportation of these plants. “The international market has a high demand for Albanian native medicinal plants which are unique species that can be found only in Albania. Our country has the advantage of having many unique types of medicinal plants”, declared Panariti.
Farmers replaced the seeding of our native sage with imported seeding from Netherlands and this was a big mistake, added Panariti. He advised farmers and companies to multiply the production of the native sage, since this will affect in the increase of exports.
In turn, the Head of the ACPEMP Filip Gjoka declared that the government should consider the companies that operate in this sector as it considers the garment industry companies, in order to benefit from easing policies and reduction of taxes. Albanian native sage comprises about 70% of the sage consumed in the USA and there is a high demand from the European markets as well.
