TIRANA, October 10
The garment and footwear industry seems to be Albania’s main exporter. The incomes of the companies that operate in this sector increased by 37 percent during the first half of 2016. Based on the data provided by the Bank of Albania (BoA), the Albanian economy gained a total of Euro 147 million on services for goods processing.
These data confirm that this sector and re-export make the main support for Albania’s exports. The extracting industry sector fell from the throne after a short moment of glory related to the prices crisis on international markets.
On the other hand, the footwear and garment sector is going through a confident stage and it is resisting the crisis and competition from other countries. This sector was mainly concentrated on the production of apparel and footwear, but recently it has extended the spectre of products due to the low-cost labour force.
Thus, it entered the processing sectors of fishing industry and industrial tools like electro motors. Further on, other services that are not related to goods processing such as call centres or information technology are joining this sector.
