TIRANA, June 29
Vjosa River is one of the water bodies that gained international attention during the recent years, due to its status as one of Europeβs last living wild rivers. Vjosa has not a special protection status and it was threatened by human impact through the construction of Hydro Power Plans. The stance of the inhabitants of the area and environmentalists against HHPs construction was supported even by international organizations and European parliamentarians.
A total of 31 HHPs is planned to be built along Vjosa and its tributaries. On early May 2017, a verdict issued by the Administrative Court annulled the concession on the construction of Pocem HPP. On the other hand, the National Territorial Planning Agency focused on the tourism potentials of the areas along Vjosa River.
Hence, Atelier Albania Academy will accept proposals and applications on tourism projects and activities that can promote sustainable development. The initiative is part of the National Territorial Plan and the local plans for the Municipalities of Kelcyra, Permet, and Kolonja. After five weeks, all the proposals on the development of Vjosa Valley will be included in one single product.
