Saranda city is making the latest preparations for launching the Feast of Mussels, an annual fair which showcases various recipes of mussels from local producers and restaurants. The coastal southern city is known for the cultivation of mussels and the production of bio olive oil, one of the most qualitative products in southern Albania.
The fair will organize its grand opening on the evening of May 8th and according to the Saranda Mayor Stefan Cipa, many local and regional producers are expected to participate in the fair and showcase ther products.
One of the most known freshwater mussels is cultivated in the Butrinti Lake, whose producers have not been able to export it in the international market. Another problem in trading mussels is the poor promotion of this product in the regional and international market.
For making a direct and low cost promotion of this local product, the Saranda Municipality has transformed the Feast of Mussels in an annual tradition. The organizers will also hold other various activities as water games, canoe races and an exposition of several painters will be showcased.
