TIRANA, January 10
A national action in the dairy industry was launched on Tuesday. The dairy industry is a vital part of the agri-food sector and the action aims at guaranteeing standards of quality and safety. The initiative was unveiled by Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Niko Peleshi during a meeting with farmers in Fier city.
The initiative will begin with additional controls and assurance within the supply and production chain. Meanwhile, it will include a package of supporting measures for correcting problematic links in the food safety chain.
Peleshi called on farmers and producers to invest more in quality in order to meet the set standards by the law and avoid fines and legal sanctions.
Moreover, he published the supporting scheme for improving the food safety chain for livestock products.
Peleshi highlighted that matriculation is the first step that creates the basis for traceability and food safety. It is a condition for benefiting from the support schemes.
According to this scheme:
Farms with more than 100 matriculated sheep-goats will receive Lek 500 per head
Farms with more than ten cows will receive Lek 2,000 per head
A maximum amount of Lek 2,000 will be paid per unit of certified vessel for milk transportation
Support for machinery and modernized farm processes, farms with more than ten cows and more than 100 sheep-goats will receive up to 50 percent of the total value of tax invoices.
Moreover, Agropika, a new information center for farmers was opened in Fier and it will provide farmers with all the information on supporting and financing schemes. Currently, five Agropika located in Vlora, Korca, Durres, Lushnja, and Fier are serving to local farmers. Meanwhile, 15 new Agropika will open throughout Albania within the first six months of 2018.
