Prime Minister Edi Rama has replied to Opposition Party’s accuses regarding the increase of energy price, by declaring that the reform on electrical energy system will bring justice, wealth and electrical energy saving. “We will compensate families in need, if they will pay more than have already paid. Every pensioner, invalid and householder will be reimbursed for the added amount of money they will pay unfairly,” said Rama.
On December 25, ERE power regulator announced that the parliament approved the decision upon which, starting from January 1st 2015 householders will start paying 9.5ALL per every KWh they spend. The previous paying scheme predicted that householders who consumed less than 300 kWh of electricity paid 7.7 lek per kWh and 13.5 lek per kWh for electricity above that. ERE also announced that businesses that use 35kV electricity will pay 9.5 ALL per kWh and those using 0.4 kV electricity will pay 14 ALL per kWh.
The reform on energy followed many polemics and debates between the ruling party and the opposition, arguing that the increase of electrical energy was unfair and would impoverish Albanian citizens more and more. The reform is being implemented by a $150 ml loan given by World Bank.
