TIRANA, September 15
The decision on the categorical ban of solid waste import, which was the first decision adopted by the current government when it came to power in 2013, will change. A draft-law compiled by three lawmakers from the ruling majority will be scrutinized by the parliament thus paving the road for allowing the import of waste. Such initiative is supported by the Ministry of Environment.
Minister Lefter Koka said during a press statement held on Wednesday that now Albania has the human and institutional capacities for controlling solid waste that enters the country. Recycling industry will be allowed in order to bring secondary raw materials.
Further on, the draft law doesnβt include changes to the articles on hazardous and non-hazardous solid waste that are not allowed to be deposited or disposed of in Albania.
On the other hand, Socialist lawmaker Mimoza Hafizi made clear her stance on the new draft law. According to her, the government is being unfaithful toward the Albanian citizens.
