According to the Institute of Statistics, during the first semiannual of this year the domestic production and the export of electrical energy increased significantly. The net domestic production increased by 59.4% (3.750 GWh), compared to the same period of a year ago where the domestic production was 2.353 GWh.
This has influenced in the decrease of electrical energy import level by 54% and a six fold increase of exports compared to the first semiannual of 2014.
If in 2014 Albania used to import electrical energy, in the first months of 2015 the country was able to export huge amounts of it due to the increase of production in public hydropower plants. 75% of the electrical energy amount was produced by public hydropower plants situated along the Drin River while 255 of it by private and concessionary producers of electrical energy.
