Investors and producers of the electrical energy sector in Albania have opposed the government’s decision regarding the new energy price. Representatives of AREA association (Albanian Renewable Energy Association) declared in a press conference that about 61 hydro power plants will have to sell electrical energy at a reduced price by 30% to the Albanian Electro Energetic Corporation (KESH).
AEC buys electrical energy to the small and midsize hydro power plants or from concessionaires that operate in country. The government changed recently the scheme of paying energy for consumers and producers as well, according to which AEC will buy electrical energy to hydro power plants at 15MW capacity. Regarding concessionaires in this field, a long term contract can be settled if requested by the hydro power plants.
The price scheme is divided in two parts and the price will be decided by the Regulatory Bureau of Energy. The selling price of electrical energy produced by the hydro power plants which are connected to the distributing system and hydro power plants which are connected to the electrical energy transmission system will be published at the beginning of every year. The formula used to calculate these prices is as follows:
The selling price (ALL per kilowatt-hour) = The average price of the respective year of the Hungarian stock exchange (HUPX) of electrical energy in euro cents / kilowatt-hour multiplied to the 1.1 coefficient.
