Elbasan and Croatian Osijek municipalities have arranged a twinning partnership after the approval of Elbasan Municipality proposal by the Municipal Council. Osijek Municipality has finalized the draft agreement of twinning and cooperation between the two cities, which now will start implementing.
This agreement consists in the cooperation of the two municipalities in various fields, mostly in economic development, investments, cultural and educational exchanges, ect. The twinning of two towns had been discussed since in 2014 and approved by Elbasan Municipality on February 19.
Elbasan city is situated in Middle Albania and is the second largest city in country with a high number of inhabitants. Elbasan was the centre of industrial development in Albania that had its start during the Zog regime with the production of tobacco and alcoholic beverages and culminated during the communist regime, transforming in an industrial city full of factories for the processing of iron, glass, plastic materials, ect.
Osijek is the fourth largest city in Croatia with a population of 108,048 in 2011 and the largest city and the economic and cultural centre of the eastern Croatian region of Slavonia, as well as the administrative centre of Osijek-Baranja County, located on the right bank of the river Drava.
