European Bank for reconstruction and Development has accorded to the Albanian government a grant of 289.400 EUR for the implementation of several projects in transport through “Stable Transport Plan in Albania”. The parliamentary Permanent Commissions discussed on Monday the agreement reached between the Albanian government and EBRD, which in this case has the role of grants’ administrator.
The grant of 289.400 EUR will be a huge support for the Ministry of Transports and Infrastructure for the implementation of this project and to reach the goals for the efficient use of energy in transport. The grant will also be a significant support for the stable development of transport network in country.
The main objective set by the government for this sector is the compilation of an efficient plan by setting objectives for the multimodal stable development of national transport and to improve policies regarding local transport.
In 2009-2013 period transport sector developed rapidly by huge investments made by the Albanian government in cooperation with international financial institutions and banks were a considerable amount of important roads were paved and reconstructed. After the governmental elections in 2013, the new government decided to cancel for awhile the construction of roads and to focus investments in energy sector and other priority sectors.
