The Albanian government is working on the compilation of a strategy and a roadmap that will be subject of taxation which will be used for the roads maintenance in the upcoming years. The strategy plan will be compiled by Egnatia Odos company financed by a grant of 149,000.00 Euros by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
Following the initiative of the Albanian government for establishing a new scheme on road maintenance, the parliamentary Commission of Producing Activity has approved on Monday the draft law for the ratification of the agreement reached between the Albanian Council of Minister, represented by the Ministry of Finances and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The grant that will be allocated by the EBRD will finance the Strategy of Road Taxation in Albania project, which at first will be implemented at the National Road.
Argita Totozani, Director of the Directorate of Integration at the Ministry of Transports, declared at the Commission’s session that the fund for road maintenance at Ministry’s budget is 10 million Euros but the implementation of this project required a funding of 40 million Euros. Totozani declared that Egnatia Odos company has 8 months in disposal for the compilation of strategy and a map by which will estimate the costs of every road and the appropriate tax for each road.
