TIRANA, November 27
Rescue crews from Albania, Kosovo, Italy, Greece, Romania, France, and Israel are continuing to search for survivors in Durres and Thumana, one day after the 6.4 magnitude earthquake and hundreds of aftershocks devastated buildings and killed 26 people (Wednesday morning).
About 24 hours from the strongest earthquake of Tuesday morning, the Albanian government declared a state of emergency in Durres and Tirana.
The decision was taken during an emergent meeting of the Council of Ministers. Prime Minister Edi Rama said that the decision was taken in compliance with the Constitution of Albania and the respective legal frame. He also said that it was not possible to do take the decision early, because it was not the time for that.
Wednesday was declared a National Day of Mourning in Albania and Kosovo.
