The Albanian Parliament adopted on Thursday by 72 votes the draft-law ‘On Strategic Investments’ and ‘On the establishment and functioning of economic zones’. The draft law aims at encouraging a quick enlargement of domestic and foreign investments in Albania.
Minister of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade and Entrepreneurship Arben Ahmetaj pointed out that this draft law will help investors that are going to invest over Euro50 million.
“The draft law will provide maximal juridical safety to investors. Free economic zones will be established for the first time. It is expected that economic growth will increase by two percent and about 25,000 jobs will be created,” Minister Ahmetaj said.
In the meantime, Socialist lawmaker Erjon Brace stressed that this is one out of the four draft laws that aim at supporting the Albanian economy.
“This is the first law of this kind in Albania and for the moment is the right one as well as the most necessary for the national economy. This is the moment for attracting foreign investors to Albania,” Brace concluded.
Moreover, the Parliament adopted by 76 votes some changes to the law ‘On the establishment and functioning of economic zones’. The law foresees the exploitation of three free economic zones located in Durres, Koplik and Vlora by private investors.
