Draft-Law on Construction of Karpen Port Adopted

TIRANA, July 19

The draft-law on the construction of Karpen Port in Kavaja, western Albania, was adopted on Tuesday by the Parliamentary Committee on Productive Activity, Trade and Environment, without the lawmakers of the opposition. Minister of Economy Milva Ekonomi said that the company that proposed the construction and exploitation of the port has no capital because it is going to manage the funds of the companies that are members of the consortium.
“Those companies involved in the project for the giant Port of Kavaja have the necessary financial guarantee for investing over five billion dollars,” Minister Ekonomi said.
According to her, the company will complete the expropriation plan within six months. Afterwards, the work for the construction of the port will begin. According to Ekonomi, the initial works will be completed within 2018. The port of Karpen in Kavaja is expected to cost five billion dollars and it will create 70,000 jobs.
