The cut of excise for energy drinks has been the reason of many discussions in the parliamentary Foreign Affairs Commission, since the members of it oppose this measure. The MP Gramoz Ruci declared that if this measure would have been recommended by the IMF, he would agree on it, but this is a proposal made by an ambassador and this cannot be taken so seriously.
Even MP Namik Dokle said he shares the same opinion with Ruci, by adding that the money government receives by this tax can be invested in various sectors. I am of the opinion to not cut the excise on energy drinks, he added, since the 280 million ALL allocated by it, can be invested in hospitals, schools and other investments.
The representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not publish the official figures of the amount of money that the government may lose if the excise on energy drinks will be zeroed. At the meeting, members of Foreign Affairs Commission also discussed the raise of salaries for Albania’s embassies staff by 25%.
