TIRANA, July 7
Summer vacationers, tourists and birding enthusiasts that prefer to visit the protected area of Buna and Velipoja will have the chance to explore the area through marked cycle routes.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in cooperation with the Regional Administration for Protected Areas in Shkodra, north-western Albania, have started the marking of cycling trails in the Water and Terrestrial Protected Landscape of River Buna-Velipoja.
Buna-Velipoja area is now considered a great tourist destination for the fans of nature, outdoor recreational activities and birdwatching enthusiasts. The delta of Buna River is recognized for the high bird life diversity and along with Shkodra Lake and Karavasta Lagoon make some of best destinations for birdwatching in Albania. Moreover, the number of vacationers and beachgoers that frequent the area and the beaches of Velipoja increases during the summer season. Almost all of them enjoy birdwatching during the evening.
As of now, the visitors may find the best spots and sites for wildlife observation and take a ride at the same time. The city of Shkodra has always been a bike-friendly city and its citizens take pride in their tradition. Now, the bicycle is an environmental-friendly way for exploring the city of Shkodra and the surrounding tourist destinations in the shore of the lake or in Buna River protected landscape.
