TIRANA, September 11
The Confederation of Albanian Industries, Konfindustria, requires the improvement of the legal compliance for environmental permits for public and private investment projects conforming to the European Union Standards. According to Konfindustria, the current criteria for the calculation of environmental financial costs, the physical space and timelines do not meet the international standards. In the long-term, this causes severe consequences to the national economy.
Further on, Konfindustria mentions the case of Vjosa River. The press release issued by the institution highlights that it is unacceptable that the environmental costs for the Hydro Power Plants HPPs planned to be constructed in Vjosa River do not include the tourism related incomes and the loss of ‘Europe’s last wild river’ name.
The same problem was noticed in hundreds of concessionary permits, public-private partnerships, throughout Albania.
The new criteria required by Konfindustria will serve as the best practices regarding the selection of investors, to avoid potential speculators, to fight corruption and to guarantee the welfare of the future generations.
