On October 16th, the Energy Community held the 13th meeting under the presidency of Albania, headed by the Minister of Energy and Industry, Damian Gjiknuri. At the meeting, the European Union Commissioner for Energy, Miguel Arias Canete considered the meeting as one of the most important ones in the past 10 years and said Albania has made progress in the energy reform.
According to Canete, the Energy Community will create a reform program which will make it more efficient and comprehensive, an integral part of the European Union. Through this reform program, the Commission has approved key recommendations from the high level group report. “We approved three key documents which relate to the enhancement of cooperation between the Energy Commission and the European Union,” declared Canete.
Regarding the dispute between CEZ company and the Albania government, Canete declared that a Commissioner does not make comments on the internal affairs of a state. However, he stressed that Albania has made progress in the energy sector by harmonizing the legal framework with the one of the European Union.
