TIRANA, March 28
June 1st is the deadline for all commercial subjects for installing a treatment system for sewage waters. Subjects that fail to meet the deadline will have their environmental permits revoked.
This was confirmed on Tuesday by Minister of Tourism and Environment Blendi Klosi during a meeting with Albanian and international experts. They focused on various models of wastewater treatment systems used in different European countries. Special attention was paid to the mismatch between the declarations made by subjects and reality.
Moreover, Klosi called on all subjects to find a solution to wastewater treatment before June 1st, which coincides with the start of the tourist season.
βUnder no circumstances, is any subject allowed to discharge wastewater into rivers and sea,β Klosi highlighted.
Further on, he said that there are 800 subjects that struggle to treat wastewater properly, and the National Environment Agency is conducting a detailed survey.
In the meantime, the national clean-up action will continue in the coastal area and riverbeds and it will culminate on the Earth Day, April 22nd.
