TIRANA, July 19
Christian Panucci was officially presented as the new coach of Albania National Football Team. He will replace Gianni de Biasi.
Former Italian football player Panucci and the President of the Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) Armand Duka signed the contract on Wednesday.
Duka expressed his belief that Panucci is the right candidate, even though he added that Panucci’s coaching career is modest. UEFA Euro 2020 qualification is the main goal.
“A famous football player and an important name in Italian football, experienced player, but with a modest coaching experience. I am convinced that we made the best choice,” Duka said.
Further on, he added that together with Panucci and his staff, the Albanian team will be qualified for UEFA Euro 2020.
On his part, the new coach said that he felt honored and that it wasn’t difficult for him to accept the offer. Panucci confirmed that Euro 2020 is the main objective and the four remained qualifying matches for 2018 FIFA World Cup will serve to the aforementioned purpose.
“I am convinced that we have a good team. We have four matches ahead of Russia 2018. Although qualification would be near-impossible, it will help us to prepare for Euro 2020,” Panucci said.
The new coach praised the work of Gianni de Biasi saying that he made history with the Albanian National Team.
Christian Panucci has short coaching career with Livorno and Ternana teams, and former assistant to Russia’s manager Fabio Capello.
