China is considered as one of the main trade partners of Albania and during 2017, following Italy, Greece, and Germany. Based on the data provided by the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) regarding international trade, exports to China during 2017 reached the value of Lek 8.3 billion, or one billion more compared to the previous year.
On the other hand, imports dropped by 2.6 percent and reached Lek 49.4 billion compared to Lek 50.8 billion in 2016.
Regarding the type of commodities, imports from China include machinery, spare parts, construction materials, metals, textiles, and footwear. In the meantime, exports mostly consist of minerals.
Concerning the presence of Chinese companies in Albania, China is a key partner, as the volume of investments by Chinese companies in Albania by the end of 2016 was $760 million.
Economic cooperation between Albania and China has also encouraged socio-economic development between both countries.
More Chinese companies are investing abroad based on One Belt One Road Initiative. On the other hand, the 16+1 mechanism accelerated social and economic cooperation with China.
