On Sunday, September 19th Tirana Municipality organized “Bio Fest Shengjergj”, an agricultural products fair where area farmers showcased their home made products. The fair took place in Shengjergj village, near to the Tirana city and according to the Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj this activity aims to promote village’s values and touristic potential.
“We could have held this fair in the middle of the city but we decided is better in the village in order to visit rural areas and recognize their touristic potential,” declared Veliaj. He added that this activity is important because it connects farmers of the area with interested traders in agriculture products, ect.
While visiting the tents of each farmer, Veliaj advised the attendants to spend at least ALL 1000 in buying products in the fair, as a modest contribute to this area’s economy. “Before you leave the fair in Shengjergj, spend at least ALL 1000 in buying homemade raki, honey, cheese or mountain tea. This is the only way we can increase the consumption of our local products and circulate money within the county,” declared Veliaj. The Tirana Mayor said rural areas in Albania have great potential in becoming touristic areas and such events should be organized frequently by every local unit.
