The Minister of Environment Lefter Koka declared on Tuesday that over 80% of the beaches in the country meet the cleanliness criteria for this summer season.
The National Agency of Coastline initiated a project for the cleaning of public beaches by making a call to all citizens, mostly youngsters, to participate voluntarily in this cleaning campaign.
Beaches in Albania are about 20% cleaner than the last year, said Koka. The government has established 78 monitoring units throughout the Albanian Riviera for keeping clean the beaches and solving side problems.
The most polluted beaches are in Durres and Kavaja, due to the bad administration of wastewaters, added the Minister.
