The share capital of the banking system in Albania estimated to be ALL 111 billion by the end of 2014, increasing by ALL 7.6 billion compared to the slight increase by ALL 1.5 billion in 2013. The figures were announced at the Annual Supervisory Report for 2014 issued by the Bank of Albania last week.
The upward trend of share capitals has come mainly due to the increase of bank profits during 2014. Bank profits increased by 70.5% or ALL 4.6 billion more during the previous year, comparing it to the profits recorded in 2013.
Banks’ profit increased its weight in the share capital by 10.1% in 2014, compared to 6.4% in 2013. The share capital decreased slightly only during the third quarter of 2014 by 0.8%, says the report. Incomes generated by the banks themselves have had positive effects in the banking system since it had the necessary capital to invest and provide more loans to businesses and individuals.
