Bank of Albaniaβs Annual Supervisory Report for 2014 issued last week, shows an upward trend of deposits in the banking system, figures that confirm Bankβs claims that the banking system in the country is performing positively. In 2014, deposits increased by 4.5% (ALL 47 billion), compared to their increase in 2013 by ALL 34 billion.
More than half of the second tier banks in Albania declared an increase of deposits during 2014, but the two main banks (Raiffeisen Bank and BKT) recorded the biggest amount of new deposits, according to the report. The total amount of deposits in the entire banking system in Albania was estimated to be ALL 1.07 trillion in December of 2014.
Most the deposits are registered as short term maturity deposits while deposits with maturity of more than one year were estimated to be 6% in 2014. In terms of currency type, deposits in Albanian or foreign currencies remain at pretty much coequal levels.
