Deposits Insurance Agency organized a high level seminar on December 13, focused on the “Deposits Insurance Fund: Principal Questions, various approaches”, in collaboration with the International Agency of Deposits Insurance. The main theme discussed at the seminar was the sufficiency of funds which have to be in disposal of the deposits insurers and the way to increase these funds, in order to comply with depositors’ needs.
At the seminar were made several presentations from big insurance companies such as the FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC) and also European insurance corporations from UK, Poland, ect.
Present in the conference was Bank of Albania’s First vice Governor, Elisabeta Gjoni, which underlined the important role of the DIA, as part of the international financial security network and its role in the maintenance of the fiscal system stability in Albania. Gjoni also appreciated Bank of Albania’s role as a supervisory authority and the support of it towards DIA in the efficient fulfillment of DIA’s mission and role. The close collaboration between these two institutions relates to the inclusion of savings-loan association in DIA’s deposit insurance scheme within 2015.
According to First vise Governor Gjoni, this project will help to raise these two institutions employees’ awareness for the respective areas at which they work.
Albanian Deposits Insurance Agency is a public institution established in 2002, whose main objective is the compensation of depositors’ deposits. The institution works based on law number 53/2014, “For the insurance of deposits”, approved on 22.05.2014 with the aim to administer the insurance deposits scheme of the Republic of Albania.
