TIRANA, April 18
Albanian exports during the first three months of 2018 were worth Euro 95 million more compared to the same period of 2w017. Official data from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) show that Albanian companies sold to the international market commodities worth of Euro 572 million, or 19 percent more than in January-March 2017.
According to INSTAT an increase in exports was noticed in all product categories, yet construction materials, the manufacturing and footwear industry, electricity, and agricultural produce were the biggest exports in Q1.
The data confirm that the Albanian companies engaged in international trade are going through a positive period due to the increased demand. This is the second year in a row that exports surge at a fast pace following three years of stagnation (2014-2016)
On the other hand, even imports reflected the same trend even though at a low pace. According to INSTAT, imports in Q1 increased by 9.6 percent compared to 2017. The most important imported product in Albania during Q1 is machinery and equipment. Compared to the previous quarter imported machinery and equipment increased by 15.5 percent due to new investments in the Albanian economy.
