TIRANA, October 31
The most popular vacation destination for Albanians in 2018 was their homeland. The Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) unveiled on Thursday the findings from the Family Tourism Poll on Travel and Tourism.
The analysis comes from a survey of 10,240 private households. The values considered are for personal and business travel and vacation trips within the country and abroad.
The desire to travel continued unabated for most Albanians in 2018 although the number of trips saw a slight decrease by 0.7 percent compared to 2017. In 2018, 81 percent of Albanians traveled within the country. Even if Albanian holidaymakers traveled more to destinations closer to home, many were drawn toward exotic destinations.
Hence, Thailand and Dubai were the destinations with the highest growth in 2018 compared to 2017 respectively with 79.5 percent and 57.1 percent. Meanwhile, the most popular Albanian cities to visit were Tirana and Korca.
The total number of times that Albanians traveled during the last year was 4,542,794.
The data show that Albanians traveled more during August, January, and March. Still, a considerable number of trips taken by Albanians land them abroad and mostly in Greece, Italy, and Montenegro.
