TIRANA, November 16
The 20th edition of Albania’s National Book Fair, one of the most important cultural activities of the year, kicked off in Tirana on Wednesday at the premises of the Palace of Congresses. All Albanian publishers also unveiled their common request for a tax deduction on books. Besides the organization of the fair stands, the publishers were determined on their requests on the reduction of the Value Added Tax (VAT) for books and especially the tax on authors and translators. Besides the book posters, several protest signs were hanged in the walls of the Palace of Congresses.
On her part, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro said that she will take the measures that all the requests of publishers on fiscal facilities are taken into consideration.
More than 100 publishing companies from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Montenegro are attending the 20th edition of the book fair. The book fair will run until November 18th after the announcement of the prizes for the best authors, translators, and publishers.
