In the framework of the annual meeting of the IMF, World Bank and EBRD representatives in Washington DC, Albanian Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Finances attented the meeting and met with high officials.
The two ministers met with the president of EBRD, Sir Suma Chakrabarti, and held discussions on the current development of country’s economy. After emphasizing the positive performance of the Albanian economy, the Minister of Economic Development Arben Ahmetaj, stated that Albania is on the right track to achieve its purposes for a stable economic growth, based on the unexploited potentials of the country.
EBRD can play an important role in many sectors and have an immediate impact, since this institution, he added, has the necessary potentials and means to help Albania. Ahmetaj was of the opinion that EBRD can help in the repayment of non performing loans and their restructuration from banks, and also by investing or giving loans in many sectors.
In turn, Sir Suma Chakrabarti expressed its willing to collaborate with the Albanian government which, according to him, is showing a real engagement in the implementation of reforms in key sectors. During the past year, EBRD invested circa $140 ml in Albania, said Chakrabarti.
The Albanian ministers also met with Zhu Min, deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, according to which, the IMF will assist Albania in the process of reforms’ implementation and will extend its collaboration in order to achieve real and positive results in long terms.
The two Albanian ministers also held talks with many high officials of important world known financial institutions and economy experts. The annual meeting of the IMF and the World Bank representatives in Washington DC gathers the most prominent economy experts and financial institutions representatives from around the world.
