Albanian Electro Energetic Corporation announced the start of exporting on Wednesday due to the high level of water collected in the Drin cascade, following the heavy rainfall in the latest days.
The corporation signed a tender on Tuesday, by contracting the sale of produced energy at least for the next two weeks, at a price of 38.5 euros per MWh. Electric energy experts of AEEC say that this sale of energy will allocate an amount of 2.5 mln euros of revenues for a period of two weeks.
The export of electric energy was required as a financial need but also as a need to lower the high level of water in the lake of Komani, which increased lately at record levels. The experts decided to take this measure in order to prevent flooding, because according to them the level of water collected at the reservoir of Fierza must not be higher than 291 meters above the sea.
Official sources from AEEC havenot specified if the period of exporting electrical energy will extend or not.
