On 23th of June, Stefan Fule announced that Ministers from the European Union member states had agreed to grant Albania the EU candidate status, based on the recommendation of the European Commission. But what comes next? After obtaining the EU candidate status, Albania will benefit in various spheres. The official decision of the EU, given by the EU Council of Ministers is an important political guarantee for European and international companies to invest in Albania. Being a candidate country of the EU, Albania will provide a warmer business climate that will encourage foreign investments and visitors.
Free movement of goods and capital will now be much easier for Albanian citizens, with many reduced bureaucratic procedures during trade exchanges. Consumers will have many more opportunities to choose goods and buy at lower prices. The elimination of taxes and barriers will make possible the reduction of trade costs and will reduce the possibilities for big companies to monopolize the market, with the purpose to give every company a chance to exercise its economic activity.
The quality of products will increase because of the same control standards as those of the European Union’s countries. The number of Foreign Direct Investments will increase – the compilation of necessary policies for a better business climate and the efficient functioning of a free-trade economy will stimulate foreign investments in Albania. The security politics for the employees during their work activity will be the same as those of the European Union states.
