TIRANA, October 9
The Albanian Council of Ministers has given its approval to a series of changes to the law on gambling that affects electronic gaming and sports betting. The new regulation that is expected to enter into force on January 1st, 2019 says that gambling and betting stores have to relocate out of inhabited areas. Prime Minister Edi Rama highlighted that slot machines, online gaming, and sports betting will be closed after December 31st.
โAccording to the law, starting from December 31st all the electronic casinos will stop their activity. The changes to the law will also apply to every type of sporting bet also known as race-track such as horse, greyhound, or any other slave animal,โ Rama said.
Moreover, he highlighted that no casino or gambling store will operate in inhabited areas throughout the entire country.
Rama also called on all the media outlets, print, broadcasted, or online to remove commercials of betting companies within 24-hours. Such activity is against the Albanian Media Law.
